All of the Fashion at the DNC
Sleeveless suits, camo hats, and a fittingly-named suit for VP Kamala Harris
Let’s start with Ella Emhoff, the step-daughter of Vice President Kamala Harris. On night one, she rocked the Harris-Walz camo hat that went viral and sold out.
A lot of people compared it to Chappell Roan’s “Midwest Princess” hat or a response to Trump’s MAGA trucker hat. After dropping, it sold out within minutes and generated huge money for the Harris-Walz campaign.
But on night two, the daughter of the second family, went more high fashion. She chose American designer Thom Browne.
The designer, known for his shaped suits, pleated skirts, and red-white-and-blue stripes, is a favorite of Ella Emhoff. She wore Thom Browne to the 2020 inauguration and has attended his fashion shows.
First Lady Dr. Jill Biden rocked another classic American designer on night one: Ralph Lauren.
Former First Lady Michelle Obama gave a stirring speech that upstaged her President and brought the crowd to tears and lit the internet afire. But the other conversation online: her sleeveless suit.
Her stylist, Meredith Koop, confirmed that the outfit was designed by Monse. She wore Jimmy Choo pumps to finish the look.
What about former President Barack Obama? The suit had a sheen that made it stand out from any other navy suit. And the light-blue tie popped.
Former CNN White House Correspondent Kate Bennett said Obama was dressed in “head to toe Armani” … but his tie is looking like Hermes to me.
During his speech, Obama made a point to call out Tim Walz’s outfit of choice: flannel shirts.
Walz’s wife loved the joke. Her reaction is prime for an SNL-spoof.
Lastly, the Democratic nominee, Vice President Harris, chose a light brown suit for her appearance at the first night of the DNC.
The choice was interesting and unexpected. It was more subdued than many of the other looks. It strayed from the Democratic blue that so many in the party like to weave into their wardrobe. It wasn’t the suffragette white that Hillary Clinton chose to wear that same night.
But digging a little closer, the suit, custom designed by Chemena Kamali for Chloé, was perhaps a perfect shade for the historic nominee at the DNC:
Coconut Brown.
This suit exists in the context of everything that came before it.
